Fort Stevens Beach

It is getting cold in the northeast!  Time for some work travel to Florida just in the nick of time…  Fortunately, this year we have had some pretty mild weather, without many gloomy and blisteringly cold days.  I think we are looking at only the second snow shower of the year this week.  Today’s update will try to warm you up if you are cold.  Photos taken are at a shipwreck at Fort Stevens Beach in Astoria, Oregon.  Although the sunset looks awfully warm, the weather there was just as cold as it is here.

2012 Philadelphia Car Show.jpg

The 2012 Philadelphia Auto Show has come back to Philly!  The last two years have been horrible weather (snow and ice), but this year was a mild 40 to 50 degrees.  It was great weather for the beginning of the show.  There was a bunch of neat cars this year, but nothing really outstanding or groundbreaking to speak of.  I have to admit, the food in china town was definitely more impressive than the cars this year.  The show runs all week and is worth it if you have never been before.

Here are a few pics from this years show:

Joe Paterno

Today marked an extremely sad day with the passing of Joe Paterno.  He was an inspiration to many people; being able to influence lives, inspire future athletes and bring joy to all fans that support Penn State football.

Although I did not go to Penn State, I am an avid PSU fan and always associate Joe Paterno with Penn State.  I am very fortunate to have attended many PSU games and witnessed Joe Pa coach many great players.  Here are a few pictures of Joe Pa’s 400th with from last year.  He will definitely be missed, and his legacy will live on.

Food 2

I just had a tasty little roast beef italian sandwich in south philly at the famous Tony Luke’s. They are known for their roast pork sandwiches, but really, anything is delicious (especially the cheesesteaks, sharp provolone cheese, and the garlicky yet bitter broccoli and spinach rabes).

So if you are tired of the same old cheesesteak at pats or genos, try out tony lukes (there should be less fighting there also).

July 4th Celebration

Happy new year everyone!  2011 was a very interesting year, having its ups and downs.  It was a year filled with travel, tragedy and many, many adventures.  Most of the adventures you can see on this blog in various posts.  Although the year had so many great moments, I really wish I could have shared them with the people I’ve lost this year.  Here is to a brand new start and an unforgettable 2012.

Fellow business partner Jessie Hodge and myself have started the first of two LLCs, Umbrella Photography Services, where we will embark on gaining a ton of photography work this year.  We had started off with some pretty small ideas in 2010, but have grown these ideas into work in 2011 and will continue to grow our business further this year.  In addition to the photo business, we have also partnered with another co-worker to begin plans for franchising a Subway restaurant!  You may ask yourselves how we have the time to do this while maintaining a full-time job in the nuke industry, and to answer you honestly, I have no idea where we find the time (luckily Jessie’s wife Leah is very understanding about our stupidity).  The only thing I’m certain of is that all of these ventures will get done successfully.  Over the next few months, we will be rolling out our new website for Umbrella Photo.  I will still be posting various jobs and adventures on this blog, but the main portfolio of work will be hosted on Umbrella.

In the meantime, my new years resolution is to try something different, posting some food pictures made with small reviews from Tiny Review.  I have discovered this little app and will utilize it to post the good (and bad) food I’ll partake on throughout 2012.  The first pic in this series of food reviews has to do with my 2011 new years resolution.  As an act of will power, I decided to give up eating my favorite snack, TastyKakes!  I went throughout 2011 without eating them, and coincidently, TastyKake went bankrupt and was sold to a Georgia bakery (Flowers Foods).  I like to think the loss of my business in 2011 hurt them financially, but I’m sure they had other problems than Steve Eng not buying tasty-klairs…  I decided to buy one this morning and I really have missed them!  The pie was delicious.

Once again, cheers to a great 2012 and beyond!
